~ Sunday, March 1st 2009 ~

Today, I woke up to find a lot of snow which was so exciting! We made snow ice cream & was outside throwing snow balls. I was having a few cramps but did not think much of it. So by 12 I had been having cramps on & off for a few hours so i called a nurse, she told me to take a Tylenol & a bath and rest, so I did. Three hours later, I was still cramping. At 3:30 hesitantly, we decided to go ahead & get checked out. I walked into the labor & delivery room in some high heel boots & calmly told them what was going on. Thirty minutes later, two nurses came in to check me out. The first nurse checked me & asked the second nurse to come & feel. The nurse then looked at me, and she said "I feel an arm". My heart sank. Dr. Simmons came in a few minutes later & explained to me that I was 10cm dilated. I had been in labor all day & not even known it at home. I begged Dr. Simmons to do something to stop the labor. He tried Magnesium, but that of course, did nothing. I could not have any pain medicine because his heart rate was dropping. The nurse felt an arm because he was coming out shoulder first. So Dr. Simmons was going to try & turn him & let me deliver vaginally. When he went in to break my water , he then realized the cord was wrapped around my little man's neck. Five minutes later I was having a C-section. I can not describe to you the feelings that i had at that moment. I thought I was dying, but I just wanted him to make it. He made it alright!, Baron Bryant Dobbs was born at 5:24 at 2lbs 14 oz & 15 1/2 inches. It was the most beautiful & perfect baby I had ever seen. He was so little, that I didn't even hear him cry when they got him out- I saw him for a brief moment then they took him to the NICU, which will remain his home for the next little bit. I did not see him til the next day around lunch time. He is a fighter though, he was on the c-pap breathing machine for one night. The next day on oxygen. Now, he is breathing on his own. He lost down to 2lbs 7 oz while we were In the hospital. Now he is back to 2lbs 12 oz. he is getting bigger everyday. Please keep us in your thoughts & prayers! I will post more updates soon!

Haley, I found your blog through the Hughes blog and I have been keeping up with you during your pregnancy. I think our due dates are very close! I was shocked to pull up your blog the other day and noticed that you had delivered your baby boy. I am glad to see you posted your story and I am also glad to know that Bryant is doing good. I know that had to have been a very scary situation for you and your husband, but it sounds like you got to the hospital just in time! I will be praying for Bryant to continue to grow and be healthy and I am also praying for you and your husband because I know how hard it is to not be able to have your baby home with you. Take care and keep posting pictures of your cute little man!!!
